Thanksgiving Travel Tips

Give thanks for turkey and travel! Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel times of the year for Americans. We all crave the togetherness of family and friends during this season, so it’s no surprise that everyone is jumping in their cars or hitting the airports.

Here are some tips to get you where you need to go, stress-free:

  1. Anticipate delays.
Knowing that just about everyone in the US is also traveling alongside you helps keep your expectations right. There likely WILL be traffic, and there likely WILL be delays on your flight. Realizing this ahead of time can help you not get as stressed out when it comes to fruition.
  2. Plan Ahead.
This leads to our next point, planning ahead. If you already know that you will very likely have some hiccups, then you can plan for them. Leave your home earlier. Have all of your important travel documents organized and accessible.
  3. Don’t Check Bags.
If you can help it, don’t check bags as this only leads to more time waiting and the potential of big stressors – like loosing your bag! If you are flying to your destination, consider only a carry-on this time of year.
  4. Avoid the Busiest Travel Days.
The day before Thanksgiving and the Sunday after are the craziest! If you have any leniency in your schedule, changing around your dates can be a huge help.

This time of year should bring about joy and thankfulness – not the stress and aggravation of travel. Follow these tips to help your days go a little smoother. Happy Thanksgiving!
